When Tibet was invaded by China,  Dalai helped Tibet overcome this invasion as well as possible and he did that in a nonviolent way, nonviolence was his technique to success. He helped Tibetan people by developing and exile for them, which became a new and safe society. He is very important worldwide because of his teachings and the wisdom he shares with the world. He promotes compassion and nonviolence as a key for a better world. Dalai Lama is also a writer and has write a wide collection of great books such as The Good Heat. Mahatma Gandhi

Gandhi was born in India when India was ruled by Britain. He became a charismatic leader in India a fought for the country's freedom utilizing nonviolence. Gandhi achieved India's freedom, thought actions such as the Salt March, by teaching the Indians to weave their own cloths and by never responding to violence with violence. The changes Gandhi accomplished in India are a great example of successful social movements that happened thru non-violent actions. I believe Gandhi's philosophy can be better understood thru the following quotes:

“Be the change you want to see in the world.” M. Gandhi

“Whenever you are confronted with an opponent. Conquer him with love.” M. Gandhi

“Whenever you have truth it must be given with love, or the message and the messenger will be rejected" M. Gandhi

Martin Luther King Junior

Martin Luther King Junior

Martin Luther King was a charismatic man that was chosen by his community to lead the civil rights movement in the south of the United States. King’s principles were based nonviolence, and he was inspired by Gandhi’s teachings. It is very important to realize that King acted with pacifism and not passivism. There is beautiful quote that King said to his followers after his house got bombed and he did not want revenge against the aggressors: “If we practice an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth we will end up in a nation that is blind and tooth less.” This quote is very wise because it explains how fighting violence with violence will lead nowhere. Martin Luther King showed the world that social changes can happen with non-violent manifestation.

“The nonviolent approach does not immediately change the heart of the oppressor. It first does something to the hearts and souls of those committed to it.  It gives them new self-respect; it calls upon resources of strength and courage that they did not know they had. Finally it reaches the opponent and so stirs his conscious that reconciliation becomes a reality.”     -Martin Luther king Jr.
